CUCFABLAB Friends General Meeting: 6:00P on June 30, 2011

The Champaign Urbana Community Fab Lab “Friends” committee will have its next general meeting at 6:00 on June 30, 2011.

The meeting is open to anyone who is interested, or who think they may be interested.

The June 30 meeting will focus on the following topics:

1. (From Betty B.) Proposals for two events, to be organized and held at the CUCFL:

• A Fab Lab “build day”, to be held on 22 October, 2011.  See notes below.
• Christmas/holiday activities

The meeting will discuss how to realize these concepts, form an initial plan, identify volunteers.

2. Other topics from the assembled volunteers, and topics for future meetings.

Notes on Proposed “Fab Fest” – a multi-FabLab build day

An all day “build off” contest.  Teams from a number of nearby Fab Labs will come to our Fab Lab, and work together to build something.  Target: 4-5 teams from 4-5 FLs.   The event will be one day (proposed date: 22 Oct), located here, i.e., everyone will come to the CUCFL for this event.

Teams will be formed from people who enter via their local Fab Lab.  The organizers will create teams which contain one person from each Fab Lab.  The teams will connect electronically at least 1 week before the build day.

Each team will be given a budget of $100 (?), and will be instructed to send us a shopping list.  Perhaps we can get donated materials.

These ideas will be discussed and improved.
