The Saturday Morning Kid's Science Club tried their hand at laser carving a pumpkin.
Turns out it takes a lot to carve a pumpkin with a laser, but the results might be worth the effort.
The dark lines are the result of vector cutting. powerful and slow are the order of the day as the pumpkin shell is hard to cut into.
A smooth pumpkin without the normal pumpkin "ridges" worked best because the bumps made it hard for the rotory jig to get an even hold of things.
Raster engraving took off the outer skin, but did not cut very deep. Maybe several passes will get it to the point where light can shine through.
