A: All Fab Labs use the same basic equipment although most Fab Labs may not have things such as the 3D printer and ShopBot, not all labs will have the space or funding for the larger or more expensive equipment.
I would suggest you spend money on good equipment and rely on available used
furnishings for lab tables, work benches, stools and chairs, storage lockers,
and even computers if they are available. We get all of our auxiliary
equipment from campus surplus. Many times computers can be donated by
folks who are upgrading to newer units. You should try and use computers
as identical as possible.
The MIT Center for Bits and Atoms maintains a reference list of suggested Fab Lab equipment at their
website. You do not need all the equipment on that list to start a Fab
Lab.
